RECENT RESEARCH REVEALS BRAND-NEW LIST OF BOOKS ADDED TO JOHN FLORIO’S LIBRARY

When he entered the patronage of Henry Wriothesley, Third Earl of Southampton, John Florio published an anonymous work that has never been analysed by his scholars: Perpetuall and Natural Prognostication of the Change of Weather.

Licensed to John Wolfe in 1591, it is a collection of old sayings drawn from many sources, modern and classical writers. It also contains a new list of authors John Florio consulted, never mentioned in his other works: books on medicine, astronomy, poems and novels. The breadth of his sources is exceptional, they span diverse eras, countries, and genres.

On April 28, 9 PM CEST, John Florio’s scholar, Marianna Iannaccone, author of “John Florio’s Italian & English sonnets”, will host a free webinar on her new research, by displaying for the first time John Florio’s anonymous work, his writing method, the reasons behind the anonymity, and the brand-new list of authors and books mentioned by the Anglo-Italian.
